Karen Joy Miller didn’t have a genetic gene of cancer. A free spirit, she was a woman who practiced a healthy lifestyle going to the gym, eating clean and more. Until one day, she found out she had stage 3 breast cancer. From there, she became the catalyst of her own community to research what environmental factors in her area led to this drastic change in her life. 90 % of cancer is due to enviormental factors as 10% is caused by genetics. Due to her advocacy, it he’d to her to become the Environmental Chair of New York and the president of Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition, located in Suffolk County New York. In this discussion with her and the executive director, Melanie Gabrell, we speak about the challenges this organization has faced and overcame, as well as prevention methods every woman can take to ensure a healthier lifestyle.
